Citizenship for Children Adopted from Outside of the United States

Children who have been adopted from outside of the United States need to acquire proof of citizenship in the form of a Certificate of Citizenship.

The Application for the Certificate of Citizenship can be found here.

It is not enough for children to be citizens under the law.  They additionally need the protection that proof of citizenship provides.

Also, if your child arrived under an IR4 visa, he or she is not a citizen until additional requirements are met.  The only way to ascertain that the government acknowledges your child's citizenship is by applying for and receiving the Certificate of Citizenship.
